Principal Engineer Aerospace Power Electronics Design

Job Summary

We seek a principal power engineer willing to lead a team in full life cycle development, topology selection and exposure working within a regulated environment to produce high performance power conversion and distribution solutions.  This group designs and develops flight critical equipment and products.  Position is based in Kirkland, WA. 

Responsibilities and Duties

We are looking for a leader.  Someone who can teach and mentor and has the capability to positively impact programs in a significant way.  Must be a strong technical leader with the ability to get things done. Design and development aspects include:

  • Fly-back, Buck/Boost, Switching, DC-DC Converters, Inverters
  • Magnetic component design for power semiconductor devices
  • Energy storage systems/batteries and power factor correction converters
  • Lightning protection and advanced control technology
  • Circuit simulation using PSpice, Simulink or ANSYS as well as model based design
  • Analog circuit design using discrete techniques plus IGBT and GaAs
  • Control loop design – PID / type 2/3 compensation and digital logic design and state machines
  • EMC / EMI Filter design and three phase power
  • Working with Mil-461 / DO-160 / DO-254

Qualifications and Skills

Candidates must have BSEE and a minimum 10 years’ related experience.  An expert level understanding of power electrical/electronic circuits, design and development is a must.    You have a solid working knowledge in magnetic component design, requirements capture, analysis and tracking, as well as tools such as OrCAD, SPICE, PSIM, ANSYS, Simplorer and Maxwell.  You must be a US citizen or green card holder under the requirement of ITAR rules.

Preferred Skills but not required to be considered include:

  • Working knowledge of specifications in DO-160, DO-254 and related standards
  • Experience with Boeing and/or Airbus EMI
  • Knowledge of power quality and susceptibility requirements
